| HAYLEY MARSHALL WIKIA
| THE ORIGINALS WIKIA
Wolves are creatures that are meant to have a pack. Somewhere they belong. For Hayley, this has never been true.
Hayley was raised by people who weren't her parents, adopted as a baby. This had never been a problem until the wolf gene in Hayley was triggered through a boating accident that Hayley regards as stupidity ultimately. The next full moon revealed Hayley's true nature, and the nature of her adoptive parents. After destroying her living room during her first change, Hayley was forced out of her home. With nowhere to go, Hayley found packs to join with but none ever felt fully like home.
The problem was that Hayley always had a gap where home should have been. Where her true pack should be. This caused Hayley to chase ways of filling that gap. Typically, this was done through joining other packs. Eventually it was done by latching onto a boy who needed help learning to not be afraid of himself. Enter Tyler Lockwood, a newbie hybrid who needed to break his sire bond by learning not to fear his own change. After spending months with Tyler, helping to teach him to give into his change, Hayley formed a bond with him that she thought might satisfy her need for family.
Ultimately, Hayley never stopped looking for her true family. This became a weakness to be exploited by many, including Atticus Shane who convinced Hayley to deliver twelve unsired hybrids to him to be sacrificed. Hayley wasn't as concerned with the why's of the sacrifice, but rather with what Shane promised her. The destination of her parents. It wasn't until after she delivered the hybrids that Hayley learned her actual parents were truly dead.
Feeling lost without a compass anymore, Hayley ends up telling Klaus of plans to kill him. This results in an alliance and an unexpected friendship with the hybrid that forever changed Hayley's life.
Chasing after her parents, her family, and potentially her pack, drives Hayley to chase down every lead she can possibly gather. In the end, she winds up back in New Orleans in more trouble as she gets used in a plot to manipulate Klaus.
Her desire to find her pack is an open and obvious vulnerability that constantly gets exploited. She's tricked into being with her family so that witches may attack her while she is unprotected, she is drawn to New Orleans by the hope of finding this family and witches hold her captive to manipulate the father of her baby, and others reveal things to her when they need her most.
Despite this vulnerability, though, Hayley has learned to compensate for her weakness in other ways.
Hayley is a strong woman, something easily discerned from spending five seconds with the girl. She's bold and upfront, unafraid to lay it out there for the wold. This strength has helped Hayley in other ways, even finding strength in being a werewolf where others feared the change. And while wanting to find her family leaves her open to manipulation, Hayley is aware of this weakness and is unashamed of it. Rather, she asserts her wants and desires.
Fearless is another word that describes Hayley. Where she sees her weaknesses, she embraces them and chases after her dreams regardless of potential outcomes. She's never afraid of a fight, even when greatly outmatched. She'll take on any challenge to meet her own dreams.
These dreams heavily center around belonging most of the time. Eventually, though, Hayley finds her pack and finds her center.
This leaves Hayley needing to assert what it means to be who she is ultimately. Her life had been predefined by her desire to find a place to belong that once she's found it she has to learn what it means to be a wolf, to be part of a pack, and even to be a mother in the end.
Hayley's values slowly shift as this occurs. No longer does she have to chase the past down, but she is allowed to live in the moment for the first time in her life. This causes Hayley to have to assert her own loyalties and live up to them.
Hayley is a woman who has never been afraid to be who she is. She is proud of herself and shows the world she is. Finding her pack only helps her find what means most to her in life: family. Which means she will live and die for her family in the end. As such, even while pregnant, Hayley asserts the wolves presence in New Orleans in order to help free them from the bayoux and allow them to return to the city. She fights for what she believes in and stands before witches, humans, and vampires to show that she will not be so easily put aside.
All in all, Hayley is an honest woman who isn't shy about speaking her mind. She doesn't enjoy hiding her thoughts and feelings, though she will if it serves a purpose ( such as hiding the existence of her baby to protect her ). However, if given the opportunity to safely reveal the truth she always will. She admires honesty in return, finding it more easy to get along with those who speak their mind. This is part of why she bonds so easily with the Mikaelsons, none of them fearing the truth and always speaking so openly. Especially Elijah, the noble one who always seems to have goodness in his heart.
Fighting for her family drives Hayley to do many things she's not proud of, however. At one point, she kills wolves to help Klaus regain power and asks herself why she does this when she's a wolf herself. As such, Hayley has has to find a balance between who she really is and what she must do in order to protect her child. While the wolves mean much to her, her child will always mean more. This leaves Hayley often making hard choices for her child, though she always ends up making a choice in the end and standing by it.
As a vampire, Hayley's emotions are more amped than normal. While usually a very relaxed person, Hayley has a quick temper with regards to certain things ( typically threats to her family and loved ones ) This is a result of being a werewolf, something that tends to hype up aggression and rage. As a vampire, this trait is worsened. At times, Hayley can feel out of control of herself when she's so used to control in the past. She embraces being a vampire easily, but the lack of control does leave her conflicted and troubled. Eventually, she does find her balance again between being vampire and werewolf, but always her temper can be just at the surface ready to boil over.
When Hayley first inherited her role as Queen of the Crescent Moon wolfpack, she wasn't so keen to lead. She had just been made a hybrid, and her daughter Hope was constantly in danger. Her life was turmoil and chaos, leaving Hayley unstable and unsuited to lead. She instead left that position to her husband Jackson. Following Jackson's death, Hayley kept herself more entrenched in the Mikaelson family drama than caring for her own pack. She remarks on how she's become a monster like that, spending years chasing people down for them to save their lives. She does everything she can for Hope.
Ultimately, this realization that Hayley neglects everything good to protect her family makes her realize that she's no good to Hope like this. None of them are. She doesn't want to see her daughter grow up and making the same wrong decisions she does in the name of family. She wants to be the one to protect her innocence by being that monster, but not let it influence her daughter. After the Mikaelson family is forced to scatter to the four corners of the Earth, Hayley makes the decision to enroll her daughter at the Salvatore Boarding School to keep her safe and free of the influence of her own decisions.
With less Mikealson drama to deal with a Hope far and safe from her, Hayley is free to explore herself again in the following years. She becomes a more centered woman, a voice in the supernatural community. She takes up her mantle leading her pack in New Orleans, finally becoming the alpha they deserve. The supernatural community loves Hayley and all she does to help hold the peace between the factions. She doesn't just care for the wolves, but anyone else within the community that might need help. She's a moderate voice when she's not being torn apart by her devotion for her family. And with her self-confidence and strength, she's a good leader.
Hayley is typically a casual sort of person. She's not necessarily needy, having learned to care for herself when abandoned. She has desires like any, most centering around a desire for a pack and for a family. And like most, she will do anything for her family. She's not shy of violence, easily embracing her temper when it's useful. But she's rare to let herself lose control. She prides herself on her power as a werewolf, and a werewolf without control cannot lead or help her pack. Hayley is an honest sort of person who can be upfront to the point of being abrasive. She doesn't shy away from this, either, and accepts the way the world views her honesty. She's a strong woman willing to take control of her life and is unafraid of her weaknesses.
VAMPIRE ⇢ Hayley Marshall is a vampire. Vampires originate from the Original vampires, whose bloodline is what created all vampires that live today. If someone from the Original family dies, everyone sired from their bloodline dies as well. Killing the Original family effectively kills the entire vampire race. The Original family was human in the 10th century, but when one of their brothers died their parents found a way to turn them into immortal vampires. Their mother, a powerful witch named Esther, performed the ritual by feeding blood to her children and using the White Oak tree to give them immortality.
As a vampire, Hayley has many strengths:ENHANCED ABILITIES : Super strength, speed, and senses. Vampires are strong at birth, and the older a vampire is the stronger they are. Vampires are more agile and move, jump, and flex more easily. Hayley’s senses are also heightened to where she has the ability to see farther, clearer in the dark, hear better, smell better, and any other such thing. Typically, these senses are not activated all at once, as that might get overwhelming. Hayley can utilize these senses by focusing in on what she wants to hear, see, etc.
HEALING/DURABILITY : Vampires are able to survive nearly any attack on them. They will heal from any injury, so long as nothing is obstructing the wound. They can even have their necks snapped and ‘die’ and still heal themselves and revive again. They are able to withstand more pain and trauma as well. They do feel it, though, and have to bear the pain no matter how much they can survive it/heal it.
CONTROL : Vampires have heightened emotions at the time of their change. To cope with the feelings of intense guilt, sadness, depression, etc., vampires are able to ‘turn off/turn on’ their ‘humanity switch,’ as they often call it. This numbs those emotions and allows vampires to act without remorse. Another vampire suggests, however, that older vampires don’t have that switch anymore. After awhile it all just becomes as it is meant to be. At this time, Hayley has not and has never turned her humanity off.
DREAM MANIPULATION : All vampires have the ability to affect the dreams of people sleeping, manipulating them the way that they want to. This can be used for better or worse, and is able to be detected if the person affected pays enough attention.
COMPULSION : All vampires have the ability to compel people by looking into their eyes and making them do what they want, usually by voice command. This can be used to dictate a command or even change someone’s thinking patterns/erase memories/etc. If a compelled person is turned, though, everything they were compelled to do returns to them. So if they were compelled to forget, they will remember everything after turning. However, it is shown that a human with great control over their minds can resist compulsion. It takes great effort, though. Bill Forbes trained for decades to be able to resist compulsion. Witchcraft can also help overcome compulsion if strong enough and knowledgeable enough.
IMMORTALITY : Vampires cease aging at the time of their turn. They can live forever, and won’t die of natural causes. Only outside forces can kill a vampire. Vampires are immune to sicknesses, as well. They are only affected by poisons generated from one of their weaknesses.
HEALING PROPERTIES : These properties are found in the blood of vampires. Vampire blood can heal any injury that it could heal in a vampire. It does create the risk of the human potentially dying while vampire blood is in their system, though, triggering them to begin the turn.
Vampires are not without weaknesses, however:FIRE/SUNLIGHT : Sunlight and fire are deadly to a vampire. They can stand in the sunlight for a short time, but it burns and is extremely painful to do so. And standing outside in sunlight only accelerates the burning until the person bursts into flames and burns to death. The only way to go out in the sun without pain is to wear something with lapis lazuli that is spelled by a witch to allow that wearer into the sunlight. Hayley does not currently have a daylight item.
VERVAIN : The flowers were found at the base of the white oak tree that gave the Original family immortality. Touching the flower burns anyone. A human on vervain is dangerous to a vampire. Their blood will taste of vervain and poison a vampire. They also cannot be compelled so long as they have vervain on them or in their system.
STAKES : Wooden stakes are a sure way to kill a vampire. A wooden stake in the heart is immediate death. Wooden stakes through any part can immobilize a vampire or greatly injure or both. At one point, another vampire in the series is kept pinned to her desk with two wood pencils in her hands. Nothing holds her down, but the pencils through her hands keep her from being able to lift her hands or remove them herself. Wooden bullets are dangerous, but if they don’t hit the heart they only hurt severely.
INVITATION : Homes that are owned by a person in any way cannot be entered without invitation. Once allowed in, you cannot uninvite a vampire. Homes with only vampires living in them and no human owner can be entered freely or homes in the public domain. Being inside a home where they are not invited is disorienting, crushing, painful, and smothering.
MAGIC : Magic can weaken a vampire. Witches are often shown to use aneurysms to bring down a vampire, as it causes great pain while they constantly try to heal from the injury. Other magic is just as dangerous, it all depends on how the witch uses their magic.
DESSICATION : Vampires who go days without blood will dry out and desiccate. Going a week leaves them fully desiccated. Witches are also able to perform a spell that does this instantly.
WEREWOLF VENOM : The myth about werewolf bites is true, and even a scratch from the teeth of a werewolf can kill a vampire.
DISMEMBERMENT : If someone is strong enough to harm a vampire, dismemberment or removing their hearts is also instant death for a vampire. Other vampires are capable of doing this to each other at any power level, as well as other creatures as strong or stronger than a vampire.
HYBRID ⇢ Hayley is more known as one of only two hybrids in her world. She was born a werewolf, and turned into a hybrid werewolf/vampire when she died giving birth to her tribrid daughter. Her daughter's blood allowed her to become a hybrid and survive her death. Unfortunately, at Hayley's current canon point she just had her werewolf nature sealed off to make her a vampire only. Hayley will be pursuing the revitalization of her hybrid abilities in Fellden through blessings/quest rewards. As such, for brevity I've linked her hyrbid abilities here
NERFS ⇢ Hayley's compulsion/dream abilities will be opt-in only with permissions posts to dictate how much they effect per person. Additionally, Hayley will be just shy of human-like when she arrives. Most of her weaknesses will remain in tact, and her abilities should build back up on the quicker end due to them typically being more passive. Her compulsion/dream abilities will take the full month to return to normal, as these are less commonly used.
- just the clothes on her back
Hayley tends to be one of the more moderate voices within the Mikaelson family. While she will do anything for family, she's not disillusioned about who she is or why she does it. It's all done with pragmatic reason for survival. At the same time, she can logically consider that her justifications are not healthy and not what her daughter should learn from her. Hayley also has a tendency to reign in others with her careful considerations and grounded positions. She's also not one to wait patiently, but rather reacts in the most effective way she can find.
Hayley is a woman accustomed to doing anything and everything for family. She has fought and killed for family, and will continue to do so. As such, she is very suited to joining a war with the ultimate goal of saving the world her family lives in. While she will need some convincing of which side as the right answer, once she's deeper entrenched in a solution to save her world she will do anything for that side. Additionally, Hayley is accustomed to looking out for supernatural creatures in particular. She will look for more people like her or similar and strive to protect them. That protection might bring some of those groups closer to the faction she's on.
